Barcelona received on Thursday a notification from the RFEF (Spanish Federation) regarding Atlético Madrid’s official complaint regarding Barça’s pursuit of Julián Álvarez.
Atlético filed the complaint a month ago accusing Barça of negotiating with a player under contract and claiming the Catalans are behind Álvarez’s public transfer request made during the World Cup.
The RFEF notified Barça an official investigation is underway and the club must present their arguments, and Barça’s lawyers will be
busy over the next few days to put together a response.
Atlético have made it abundantly clear they do not want to sell Julián to the Catalans, and Barça’s only hope is that Álvarez makes another public gesture — such as a second transfer request or even refusing to rejoin the squad for preseason — to force a move.
Barça president Joan Laporta said the club’s €100 million offer will expire soon, and Barça are reportedly looking at other alternatives while also having to prove they did not break any laws in their pursuit of Álvarez.
What a mess.
