It’s the final day of the minor league season.
I don’t remember this being announced previously, but catcher Casey Opitz and outfielder Jaylen Palmer were both promoted to Triple-A Iowa from Double-A Knoxville. Today, both players were activated and made their I-Cubs debuts.
Iowa Cubs
The Iowa Cubs went out meekly against the Toledo Mud Hens (Tigers), 7-2.
Starter Will Sanders gave up three runs in the third inning and three more in the fourth and got the loss. Sanders’ final line was six runs, three earned,
on six hits over 3.2 innings. Sanders struck out three and walked one.
Both Iowa runs came on a double in the seventh inning by shortstop Ed Howard, Howard went 1 for 3.
Third baseman Hayden Cantrelle was 1 for 2 with a walk. He scored on Howard’s double.
Miguel Amaya caught seven innings in a rehab appearance and went 0 for 3 with a strikeout.
Howard’s double just missed going out.
And that’s a wrap for the Iowa Cubs season. They finished 35-39 in the second half, in sixth-place in the International League West. Their overall record was 74-74.
That’s also it for the 2025 Minor League season and the Minor League Wrap. As always, thanks to everyone for reading and commenting. As always, there were highlights and lowlights. Myrtle Beach had a great second half and made the playoffs. Knoxville also had a winning record.
Another highlight: I don’t think I once called Knoxville “Tennessee.” I actually did several times, but I think I always caught it before I hit “publish.“
See you again in March.
