Despite losing to the Texans across the pond and dropping to 4-2 on the season, the Jaguars have remained a top five team in ESPN’s Week 7 power rankings.
“Penalties have cost the Jaguars three touchdowns, including a pair of 3-yard touchdown runs by running back Bhayshul Tuten,” says ESPN beat reporter Michael DiRocco. “It happened again in Sunday’s loss, with a questionable holding call on tight end Brenton Strange. The Jaguars didn’t get points on that possession because QB Trevor Lawrence threw
an end zone interception two plays later. Jacksonville did score touchdowns after the other two penalties, against New England and Cincinnati, but it finally caught up to them in a three-point loss to the Texans.”
A couple weeks ago, a loss to the Texans would have looked a lot worse and would have likely sunk their ranking a bit more. However, the resurgence of the Texans offense has brightened their outlook as a team and I truly agree with the decision to keep the Jaguars high here because I think we all knew Houston was going to get right at some point and unfortunately it just so happened to take place against Jacksonville.
Sucks, but it happens. The Jaguars are still in a great place moving forward.
