Mark Pope and his staff will be busy this weekend hosting one of the best players in the class of 2027. Dawson Battie will be taking an unofficial visit to Lexington, as reported by Sam Kaiser of League
RDY.
The Dallas (TX) native is rated as a composite 5-star recruit and the 11th best player in his class, according to 247 Sports. At 6-8, 210 pounds, Battie is known to be a physical presence in the paint with tremendous potential.
He holds offers from several SEC schools, including Missouri, LSU, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, and Texas. There have been no crystal ball predictions logged at this time.
Battie has the pedigree to become a special player. His father, Derrick Battie, played at Temple from 1992-1996 while his Uncle, Tony Battie, was the 5th overall pick in the 1997 NBA draft.
The Big Blue Nation knows that the state of Texas has been good to the Kentucky basketball program over the last 15 years or so. The Harrison Twins, Julius Randle, De’Aaron Fox, and Tyrese Maxey all came from the Lone Star State.
Could Dawson Battie be the next to make a move to Lexington?
It’s much too early to tell in today’s landscape of college basketball. But it’s good to know that Battie will be in town on his unofficial visit during what will be a glorious weather weekend.
I think a trip to Keeneland may be on the table.
