Bayern Munich’s summer winger search included a feel-out for Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli — but the offer was far too low despite a ‘positive’ conversation with the player’s representation, according to a report from Fabrizio Romano. As captured by @iMiaSanMia:
Gabriel Martinelli was also one of the targets considered by Bayern for the wing position. Bayern spoke to his agents – it was a positive conversation – but Martinelli was happy at Arsenal, and the Premier League side had no intention
to accept €30-35m, that’s why the negotiations didn’t advance [@FabrizioRomano]
Martinelli has had a solid career since arriving at Arsenal as a teenager in 2019/20. His peak production was in 2022/23, when he started almost every Premier League game, and he has seen his role reduced in the last two seasons. But the 24-year-old is still young, energetic, and a fine goal-scorer on his day.
Bayern got the more lethal player in Luis Díaz, so all’s well that ends well. As for Martinelli, the Brazilian has started two of Arsenal’s opening four Premier League matches and most recently found himself coming off the bench against Nottingham Forest in favor of newcomers Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze on either wing.
Martinelli’s contract in North London ends in 2027, so he could end up being a topic again — most likely for another club rather than Bayern — next summer. As a club-homegrown talent by Premier League and Champions League registration rules, Martinelli should have extra value for the Gunners, or at least to other English clubs.
