TalkSPORT reports that light heavyweights Ben Whittaker and Conor Wallace are in “advanced negotiations” to meet in an October 3rd IBF eliminator at Birmingham’s Utilita Arena.
Australia’s Wallace (17-1, 12 KO), 30, has never fought outside his home country and his biggest win to date saw him edge out Jerome Pampellone in what was, if BoxRec is to be believed, Pampellone’s second consecutive IBF eliminator despite losing the first one to Malik Zinad. This means he’s actually the higher-ranked of the two,
sitting behind the empty slot formerly occupied by Michael Eifert.
Tokyo silver medalist Whittaker (12-0-1, 9 KO) has ended his last four fights in under two rounds apiece, starting with a quick finish of Liam Cameron in their rematch and most recently smashing Richard Rivera last month. He seems to have really found his stride as a professional, but we’re still waiting on the top-tier test that Wallace, on paper, doesn’t seem apt to provide.
At least he’s staying busy; this would be his third fight in six months.
