The week after facing a backup and third-string quarterback, the Buffalo Bills defense might see the Vikings backup at quarterback on Monday Night Football.
On ESPN’s Get Up Thursday morning, Adam Schefter hinted at a strong likelihood Carson Wentz will be Minnesota’s starter in Week 9’s game:
Regarding Kyler Murray, Schefter
said, “clearly his status for Monday night, is at best, up in the air. And it sounds like it is trending toward Carson Wentz starting on Monday night.”
Murray is laboring through a hamstring injury he suffered in Week 8’s loss to the Lions.
On the season, Murray is completing 64.9% of his passes at 6.6 yards per attempt with five touchdowns to three interceptions. He’s also run 29 times for 167 yards. In non-garbage time situations, the Vikings are 26th in football in EPA per dropback entering this game.
Wentz has appeared in two games in 2026 — one relief appearance, one start. Collectively in those contests, the veteran completed 23-of-39 attempts for 276 yards (7.07 yards per) with three touchdowns and no interceptions. All three touchdowns came in his Week 1 relief appearance at home against the Packers, which amounted to a 39-22 Vikings win.
His start came in a 9-3 win in a monsoon over the Bears in Chicago in Week 2.
Murray or Wentz in primetime this week for Minnesota?
We’ll have to wait and see.
