As Conor Benn looks towards his upcoming shot at redemption in November when he takes on Chris Eubank Jr in a rematch of their April fight, he talks to Sky Sports about what he plans on doing differently in the rematch to get him the result he desires.
Benn says that he believes Eubank starting coming on the the later rounds of the fight because of his own lack of discipline and that letting his emotions of wanting to inflict damage upon Eubank override his tactics ended up biting him in the butt
on the scorecards. This time, however, Benn says his first priority will be about winning the fight rather than blind rage.
“I felt like I could have knocked him out, I felt like he was vulnerable. At any given moment I could have had him, but the moment never came because I never picked my shots. There was no shot selection. So it’s just a matter of using that experienced gained.
“I’ll always be a ferocious, dangerous fighter. I’ll always be the fighter that puts it all on the line and takes risks. But it’s calculated risks. It’s going in there and fighting with my head, not my heart.”
There had been many questions as to whether or not this rematch would be taking place at all after Eubank Jr suggested making 160 lbs was no longer easy for him and resulted in dehydration in their first fight, but the sides have since settled the disagreement with the rematch to take place at the same weight limit. Whether or not Benn can actually think his way through this rematch in order to score a win will be revealed in short order.
