The Baltimore Ravens placed linebacker Jay Higgins on injured reserve on Saturday, per the NFL’s transaction wire. The team also promoted defensive tackle Taven Bryan from the practice squad to the 53-man roster.
Higgins suffered a knee injury in the Ravens’ win over the Vikings last week. Head coach John Harbaugh said that he would miss “a few weeks” but is expected to return later this season. The required four-game absence places Higgins’ earliest return in Week 15 for the Ravens’ second matchup
with the Bengals.
The Ravens needed to clear a roster spot for Bryan, who used up his three practice squad elevations in the team’s last three games. The eight-year veteran signed in Baltimore in September after injuries to Nnamdi Madubuike and Broderick Washington and became part of defensive coordinator Zach Orr’s post-bye adjustments. Wanting bigger bodies to stop the run, Orr has played Bryan over rookie defensive tackle Aeneas Peebles – who profiles as more of a pass rusher – in the last three games. With Bryan available for Sunday’s game, expected Peebles to be a healthy scratch once again.
