Joe Cowan: 7/10
Made one good save from a near post effort that he did well to tip over the bar but well protected tonight and most of his work was punching away corners, which he was very proactive with. No chance with the late consolation for Watford.
Finlay Holcroft: 7/10
A solid display at right back, did well when the game was still in the balance to get into the middle and not only block a chance but to win a free kick too.
Archie Lightfoot: 7/10
Got up and down the line well all game, whipped in a lovely cross for Geragusian early on that the big striker
just missed out on and .
Ben Kindon: 7/10
A good effort from Kindon, plenty of blocks around the box but just one hairy moment when he gave the ball away cheaply just inside the visitor’s half but Lienard was there to cover.
Alex Lienard: 8/10
Made a good recovery after Kindon gave the ball away easily inside the Watford half and defended well all night, also had a hand in the opening goal when he played a great line breaking pass to Dinsdale.
Liam Hunt: 7/10
A tidy display in the middle of the pitch, always available for a pass and was very reliable on the ball.
Jaydon Jones (C): 7/10
Not one of his more eye-catching displays, with very little happening going forward until late on but did pick up an assist after he picked out Campbell for the third of the night.
Finn Geragusian: 7/10
Was quite a scrappy game and he didn’t have many chances to work with, just one good cross from Lightfoot that evaded him but he did celebrate his call up to the Armenian squad with a header to open the scoring from a loose ball.
Felix Scott: 7/10
Some good bursts from midfield to start attacks and worked hard off the ball, did have one good chance but unfortunately had an air shot when well placed to test the goalkeeper.
Charlie Dinsdale: 8/10
Drifted in and out of the game a bit but when he was in it he was always dangerous. Once in each half he drove in behind the Watford backline and hit a good cross across the six-yard box, the first half one was blocked but the second half one resulted in an easy header for Geragusian to open the scoring.
Marcus Neill: 7/10
Worked hard but was quite isolated for the majority of the game, was involved in the opener and then picked up an assist when he played in Campbell to make it 2-0.
Substitutes
Lewis Campbell: 8/10
Only came on in the second half but ended up the match winner thanks to two well taken goals.
James Barker: 6/10
Replaced Scott as we brought on fresh legs.
Arron Bowman: 6/10
Came on for Lightfoot at left back when the game was won.
Matthew Burns: 6/10
A late change as he replaced Liam Hunt in the middle of the pitch.
Man of the Match: Lewis Campbell
Came on midway into the second half with the game in the balance, Sunderland were winning 1-0 but the game was very tight and Campbell made himself the match winner with two quick goals. Running in behind to finish smartly past the goalkeeper and then finding himself with room to slot past the goalkeeper from Jaydon Jones’ pass.
