The Knights held their own on the road against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (65-57), splitting the six-game series. As a result, Charlotte’s middle-of-the-road second half continued.
Shortstop Andy Weber, 29, had a huge week, as he finished 6-for-17 with two homers, two doubles, three walks and five RBIs to finish with a 1.300 OPS. In particular, Weber’s performance on Saturday, when he went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs, went a long way during Charlotte’s 9-6 victory. Weber’s slash line this season in 107 games (73 games with Charlotte, 34 games with Birmingham) is .258/.319/.430, as he has been a stable contributor at a premium position. Weber is still looking to make his MLB debut, and he took a big step in that direction this week.

What a week for the Barons, who swept the Lookouts (52-68) in Chattanooga. As a result, the second half standings for the North Division of the Southern League are quite close. Rocket City (27-24) leads the way, with Knoxville (26-24) and Birmingham (26-25) close behind.
Many players’ individual numbers may have been enough to become the Baron of the Week during an average week for the team. However, due to the team’s 6-0 week with a +28 run differential, it took an incredible performance to come away with the award, and outfielder Dylan Campbell, 24, was up to the task. Against the Lookouts, Campbell went 13-for-28 with four homers, two doubles, two walks, four successful stolen bases without being caught and six RBIs. That monstrous series ended in a 1.464 OPS that increased Campbell’s season slash line to .241/.322/.429 in 112 games (all in Double-A). Campbell started the season with Philadelphia’s Double-A team, where he posted a .693 OPS in 55 games. Since coming over in the Derek Hill trade, Campbell has an .804 OPS in 57 games with the Barons.

The Dash picked up their second straight 4-2 series victory, and this time, they did it against Greenville (52-65) on the road. The week got off to a rough start, with Greenville taking two of the first three, but the Dash won the final three games of the series.
Outfielder Nick McLain, 23, was on top of his game for the Dash, as he went 6-for-15 with a homer, two doubles, six walks, and four RBIs for a 1.278 OPS. McLain, who is primarily a center fielder, has been an on-base machine for the Dash since being promoted on July 31. Since then, McLain has slashed .288/.449/.424 in 16 games. Overall, in 56 games this season (nine games with the Complex Sox, 31 with Kannapolis, 16 with Winston-Salem), McLain’s slash line is .296/.406/.370. Despite only having three homers, McLain has found plenty of other ways of contributing.

The Cannon Ballers continued their winning ways in the second half with another successful series. This time, they pulled off a 4-2 series on the road against Fredericksburg (70-49).
Left-handed relief pitcher Jordan Morales, 26, was dominant on the mound, picking up a pair of saves and striking out eight in 3 2/3 fantastic innings. Morales only allowed one hit, which was a single, and Morales did not even allow that player to reach second base. In 36 innings this season, all with the Cannon Ballers, Morales has a 2.75 ERA and a 2.30 FIP, and he has 13.75 strikeouts per nine innings. Incredibly, opposing hitters have a .395 BABIP against Morales, who has excellent numbers despite some bad luck on batted balls. Since a rough outing on June 12, Morales has only allowed two earned runs in 23 1/3 innings for a 0.77 ERA, so he has been trending up for months.
