The Denver Broncos just re-signed free agent tight, Adam Trautman, to a three-year $18 million contract. The 29 year old has averaged 21 catches per season in during his six year NFL career, or a little more than one per game. He has played in 94 games and has 115 catches.
According to SISdatahub.com he has been a blocking TE since entering the league as a 3rd round pick out of Dayton in 2020. He has had 188 or more run blocking snaps every season. His high was 285 in 2023 and he has averaged 269
run blocking snaps every season from 2021 to 2025. Only Cole Kmet of the Bears has more run blocking snaps over the last six seasons and only Dalton Schultz, Trautman and Kmet have more than 1500 run blocking snaps during this timespan. There are 108 tight ends who have had 160 or more run blocking snaps (10 per game) in a season during this span. In terms of blown block percentage over this timeframe, Trautman ranks 58th.
Trautman’s combined blown block percentage is 1.63%, which is a little better than the average for all blocking tight ends over the past six season – 1.70%. These 108 blocking TEs have had 1124 blown run blocks on 66181 run blocking snaps. Many of those in the bottom of this ranking are actually pass catching TEs who are forced to run block and usually do it poorly like Brock Bowers, Sam LaPorta, Noah Fant, Jason Witten and Darnell Washington. It’s odd the Washington is that poor at run blocking since he is supposedly about 300 pounds now – making him an offensive tackle who can catch (like Frank Crum).
Trautman has gotten stuffed on 10 of his 1534 run blocking snaps for stuff percentage of 0.65%, which is almost exactly the average among these “blocking” TEs, 0.66%. His stuff% is 68th. Only two of the 108 had a stuff rate of 2.0% or worse, Tyler Conklin (2.03%) and Ross Dwelley (2.19%). Both guys also had terrible blown block percentages. Jason Witten was close, but 2020 was the final year of his career and his average at best blocking skills had eroded to bad at that point in his career. This is also after he had come back from his first retirement.
I find it interesting that Evan Engram’s run blocking stats are comparable to Trautman’s.
It’s also noteworthy that Marcedes Lewis has not been a good run blocker for since before 2020.
Note that this only sums run blocking stats for TEs with 160 or more run blocking snaps in a given season.
Nate Adkins was also just re-signed. He was only a run blocker on 78 snaps, but he was the only Bronco TE who didn’t have a blown run block last season. The only Bronco TE would got stuffed on a run play was Adam Trautman.
Note that because Engram only had 46 run blocking snaps in 2025, his number for 2-25 are not included in that first table. Engram has 1304 career run blocking snaps and 25 blown run blocks, but he has not been doing much blocking since the 2023 season.
Evan Engram run blocking snaps by season:
- 2020 – 227
- 2021 – 168
- 2022 – 215
- 2023 – 166
- 2024 – 81
- 2023 – 46
