Rutgers Football Head Coach Greg Schiano met with members of the media after the Scarlet Knights’ 38-19 loss to Washington.
Schiano opened up his post-game press conference as he usually does by talking
about what he thinks went wrong and a few of the things he believes they did right. He once again touched on the need for consistency in this league and how they haven’t had the consistency they need to win, but they have had some flashes of it.
“We’re just not quite there yet, but we will get there.”
The first question that was asked pertained to the RedZone inefficiency of the offense, as they scored only 13 points on six trips. As usual, Schiano gave credit to his opponent and their defense, and he felt that they outplayed the Knights inside the 20-yard line.
The next question concerned Washington’s offensive explosion in the second half and what went wrong with the defense that allowed it. Schiano highlighted the performance of Demond Williams and how his dynamic skillset makes him hard to stop, but he also pointed out that the defense had several missed assignments in the second half, which proved costly for the Knights.
Something worth noting is that Schiano said much of what he is saying in this press conference echoed what he said after Rutgers’ loss to Minnesota, and how it is on his shoulders to figure out how to help everybody do their job better. He talked about how the team itself and the coaching staff need to own their loss, not moan and groan about it, and go back to work to fix the issues they need to fix.
