Former UFC welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman, is one of the few people Anthony Joshua called after last month’s fatal car crash in Nigeria. For reasons not entirely understood, someone from Usman’s team
recorded the private conversation, which was later posted online as part of a larger video package.
Not surprisingly, Usman got creamed for the “breach of trust.”
Usman took responsibility for the video but did not offer an apology.
“After seeing what’s being written it’s quite heartbreaking,” Usman wrote on X. “Being on camera that whole day in preparation for The AKO show, it completely slipped my mind that my conversation was recorded. I realized after and asked about it. I take full responsibility for not properly watching the video that was released and keeping my private conversation with my brother AJ private. SMH — big L on me. That’s not something I would ever do to a friend/ brother.”
Fan reactions were divided.
There’s a chance Usman was overwhelmed with prep for The AKO Show and was not part of the editing process prior to the release of assets. Or maybe “The Nigerian Nightmare” included the recording to showcase his close relationship with the heavyweight boxer before it blew up in his face.
Only Usman knows for sure.
