After coming off the bench in Spain U-21’s last game in the loss to Finland, Carlos Espi was put in the starting line-up ahead of Gonzalo Garcia against San Marino today.
It was, as expected, a complete bloodbath. Spain won 13-0, and Espi scored five goals while handing out two assists.
These are the games that feel even less difficult than actual training exercises, and one of those games where
San Marino’s players looked like they were ready for the final whistle right at kick off. Spain had 80% possession, shot the ball 48 (!!!!) times, created 10 big chances, scored 13, and had over 500 passes more than their opponents.
Most of Espi’s goals were pretty straightforward, and there isn’t much sense blasting all of them in this article, but here is his fifth and final goal on the night:
Former Real Madrid academy product Jacobo Ramon also scored in the demolition, while Iker Bravo had two assists and five key passes.
Spain U-21 have one more game remaining during this international break: a game against Romania next Tuesday. A win in that game will guarantee them top spot in Group A UEFA EURO U-21 qualification.
