The division saw another sizeable move occur, as Boston jumped back into the mix with another trade with St. Louis — this time going for Willson Contreras to play first base for them. They gave up a few
pieces, including pitcher Hunter Dobbins as the headliner, so he won’t have to worry about antagonizing Yankees fans in the near future anymore. The Yankees, meanwhile, have continued to just stitch back together their bullpen, bringing Paul Blackburn back on a one-year deal. It’s a smart deal and I don’t mind it, but I think just about everyone is getting antsy waiting for the shoe to drop on what their big offseason move will be.
That wait might end before the holidays if we’re lucky, but if not then we’ll continue to coast through the end of the month here. Josh takes some time to talk about the impact of Tyler Skaggs’ trial as it came to a close this weekend, and then Matt is around to talk about Don Baylor’s arrival to New York among the many big deals of the 1980s. Later in the day, I’ll be back to open up the mailbag for one last round of your questions this year.
Questions/Prompts:
1. How well of a fit will Willson Contreras be in Boston?
2. Will the Giants complete their tank season after narrowly losing to Minnesota, or will they blow holding the No. 1 pick late?
