I’m not saying the phrase and you can’t make me, but according to Fabrizio Romano (sigh), Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City have reached a verbal agreement for the transfer of Savinho. The transfer fee is said to be “over £75m.”
What we don’t know (yet) are the details on what the actual fee is, whether the amount includes performance or appearance-based add-ons, or what it means for the subsequent transfer of Omar Marmoush. But it’s a start. One year ago Spurs were talking with City about a fee for Savinho of about €50m. Now the fee is more than £75m, which seems crazy but in this Premier League market there are clearly no limits and we’re paying with Monopoly money so like, whatever.
Anyway, Savio has been twerking for Spurs for weeks now and it sounds like the medical will take place tomorrow ahead of a signing, possibly before the Friday deadline for the Brentford match. Now, I don’t think anyone really believes that Savinho will suit up for Spurs and play at the Gtech stadium on Saturday. That’s just a bridge too far considering he’d have had maaaaaaaybe one practice with his new teammates before the season opener. But it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s a part of the squad for the home opener against Newcastle next weekend or even gets some minutes in the League Cup match against Charlton midweek.
Anyway, this has been a LONG saga — more than a year in the making! It feels good to know that Savinho is going to actually sign for us and not be Leandro Damio 2.0 (I still believe!).
