Barcelona midfielder Marc Bernal has launched a staunch defence of team-mate Frenkie de Jong and hailed the Dutchman’s qualities.
De Jong has often come in for criticism from some quarters during his time at Barcelona. There’s been plenty of talk about his salary, something De Jong has publicly pushed back again.
Bernal feels De Jong has been harshly treated and explained how impressed he has been by the midfielder since he’s played alongside him at Barcelona.
“Everything that is said about him is pure
lies. Reviews? I see him train, I see him play and it’s amazing,“ he told Ara.
“Not only do I think about it, we have talked about it with some teammates, who in the first days we were promoted to the first team and he was the one who surprised us the most because of the technique he has.
“The speed also surprised me a lot. And most importantly, that he did not lose a single ball.”
De Jong has this week committed his future to Barcelona by signing a new extension with the club that runs until 2029.
