Columbus Clippers (59-52) – AAA
COL 5 – SYR 6
While the Guardians are done with the Mets for the season, the Clippers have a few more games against them this week. Trenton Denholm got the start for Columbus, throwing 5.0 innings of work. Denholm allowed five runs on seven hits and two walks, striking out four. Trevor Stephan fell to 0-3 on the season, recording a loss in his 2.0 innings of work. He allowed a run, walking two and striking out three. Stephan walked two batters and a double steal put runners on second and third.
A throwing error by Kody Huff allowed the runner to score from third. Ryan Borucki pitched the eighth and only gave up one hit. He struck out two.
Columbus got on the board early with a lead off walk from Cooper Ingle to start the game. Daniel Schneemann singled and David Fry reached on a fielding error to load the bases. Kyle Manzardo hit a sac fly to left to score Ingle for the first run of the game. In the top of the fourth, Kahlil Watson lead off the inning reaching on catcher interference. With one out, Milan Tolentino slapped his 14th home run of the season to left center.
In the top of the sixth, Tolentino drove in another run. Kody Huff reached on a one-out walk. After the pitching change, Tolentino doubled to right to score Huff. With two down, Dayan Frias singled on a fly ball to right to score Tolentino and tie the game.
Unfortunately the Clippers couldn’t add on two more runs to win the game and lost by one run. Cooper Ingle went 0-for-4 with a walk and a run. Daniel Schneemann went 2-for-4 with a walk. David Fry went 0-for-5, remaining .000 since being demoted to AAA. Kyle Manzardo, now without a mustache, went 0-for-3 with a RBI.
Akron RubberDucks (49-56) – AA
SOM 4 – AKR 11
The Akron RubberDucks took down the Somerset Patriots last night with a 11-4 victory. The RubberDuck pitching staff had another successful night with starting pitcher Caden Favors improving to 5-6 on the season with the win. Favors went 6.0 innings allowing over two runs on five hits and two walks, he struck out five. Jay Driver threw a scoreless seventh, walking a batter and striking out two. Dylan DeLucia pitched the final two frames of the game. DeLucia allowed two runs on one hit and two walks, striking out three.
Bennett Thompson got the RubberDucks on the board early in the bottom of the first. With one out, Jaison Chourio doubled to center then stole third base. Thompson hit a perfectly placed single that gave Chourio the opportunity to score. Nolan Schubart hit a two-run home run in the next at bat to extend the Akron lead.
In the bottom of the third, Nolan Schubart came back up to bat, with one out, and hit his second home run of the game.
Dean Curley went back-to-back with a Schubart and hit a home run to right center.
In the bottom of the sixth, Christian Knapczyk grounded into a force out to get the first out of the inning, with Maick Collado out at second and Knapczyk on first. Tyresse Turner singled and advanced to second on a throwing error, putting both runners in scoring position. Ryan Cesarini drew a walk to load them up and Jaison Choourio drew a walk to bring a runner home. In the bottom of the eighth Tyresse Turner lead off with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Ryan Cesarini drew a walk and worked himself into scoring position with a stolen base. Jaison Chourio hit the fourth home run of the game for Akron.
With one out and the bases empty, Nolan Schubart singled to right field. Dean Curley hit his second home run of the night for the final run of the game.
Akron won by a dominate seven runs.
Lake County Captains (54-48) – High A
LC 2 – LAN 13
Harrison Bodendorf took the mound for the Captains. The Captains pitching staff did not have a good night. Bodendorf went 4.2 innings and allowed five runs on five hits and two walks. He struck out five. Luis Flores went 1.1, allowing three runs on two hits and three walks. Cam Schuelke allowed five runs on five hits and four walks on 2.0 innings.
The Caps bookended the game with a run in the first and a run in the ninth. In the top of the first, with two outs, Jace LaViolette hit his 18th homer on the season to right field.
In the top of the ninth, Welbyn Francisca hit his 11th home run of the season, also to right.
Hill City Howlers (45-61) – Single A
WIL 0 – HC 2
The Howlers shut out the Wilson Warbirds on Friday night. Ryan Prager improved to 3-3 on the season with a combined shutout win. Prager went 6.2 innings of scoreless ball. He gave up three hits and one walk, striking out nine batters. Evan Chrest earned his third save, completing the shut out in his 2.1 innings of work. He didn’t allow a single baserunner and struck out four batters.
In the bottom of the second Gabriel Rodriguez, Yeiferth Castillo, Johan Rodriguez, and Pedro Dalmagro hit back-to-back-to-back-to-back singles to put the first run on the board. Yerlin Luis grounded into a double play that scored Castillo from third for the final run of the game.
