The 2024 Eagles
The Packers next opponents need no introduction. Everyone knows how
the story of the 2024 Eagles season ended: with a blowout win in the Super Bowl over the best team in the last 10 years that capped off a 14–3 regular season. They were one of the league’s most complete teams, showing few weaknesses across any phase of the game.
Behind strong leadership, elite roster construction, and effective game planning on both offense and defense, the Eagles reclaimed their spot atop the NFC and made a deep playoff run that ended with another Lombardi Trophy.
Offensively, the Eagles carefully blended explosive plays through the air with a bruising ground attack that wore defenses down. Jalen Hurts orchestrated one of his most efficient seasons, supported by an elite offensive line that consistently created clean pockets and running lanes.
The Eagles ranked inside the top ten in both overall offensive EPA and passing EPA per play, and they finished among the league leaders in scoring. In passing EPA, they finished 8th overall. In rushing EPA, they finished 1st overall on the back of Saquon Barkley.
Defensively, under the leadership of Vic Fangio, the Eagles dominated opponents with suffocating coverage and relentless pressure from their front seven. They finished 3rd overall in defensive EPA per play (3rd versus the pass, 2nd versus the run).
In the Super Bowl, their defense’s ability to create turnovers and short fields proved vital throughout their postseason run.
The Packers faced the Eagles twice last season, both starting and ending their season with them. In week 1 of 2024 in Brazil, the Packers narrowly lost 34-29.
The two teams met again in the 2024 NFL Playoffs wildcard round in Philadelphia where the Eagles picked off Jordan Love three times en route to a 22-10 win to send Green Bay home. Now on a Monday in the middle of the 2025 season, the two teams meet again.
The 2025 Eagles
The Eagles entered the 2025 riding high from their Super Bowl victory and looking to continue the momentum. Under Nick Sirianni’s leadership, they returned many of the core pieces that delivered the title, particularly on offense. The schedule set for them was demanding — full of prime-time games, road challenges, and high-expectation matchups — which meant their margin for error was slim. Their opening stretch would serve as both a statement and a litmus-test for whether the championship hangover would be real.
Early in the season the Eagles got off to a strong start, posting a 6-2 record through the first eight games. The Week 1 win at home against the Dallas Cowboys set the tone, as they held Dallas in check and showed they could potentially recapture some of that 2024 magic but it’s been anything but easy this season.
The offense and defense both showed flashes of the title-winning form of a year ago, but there have been more struggles recently than successes — partly due to roster turnover on defense and the challenge of replacing key departed contributors.
The limits of the offense seem to be defined by Hurts as he struggles with being a quarterback and dealing with a frustrated AJ Brown, the Eagles top pass catcher. On offense, the Eagles have tried to lean into their strengths built around Hurts’ dual-threat ability and a potent supporting cast. Even through all of this though, the Eagles are the 8th ranked offense by EPA (12th in the pass, 4th in the run).
On the defensive side, the story is much different. While the front seven and secondary remain a talented group, the departures of several veterans meant younger players were going to be counted on to step up and play at a high level. Defensively, they’re ranked 17th in EPA per play overall (18th against the pass, 13th against the run).
Final thoughts
The Week 10 matchup between the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles features two teams with playoff aspirations and contrasting identities. The Eagles enter as the reigning champions, powered by a balanced offense led by Jalen Hurts and one of the league’s most efficient defenses against the pass.
Their offensive line remains dominant, giving Hurts time to push the ball downfield to A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith while also controlling the game with a steady run game. Philadelphia’s defense, built around its deep pass rush rotation, will want to disrupt Love’s rhythm and force Green Bay into long passing situations where turnovers become more likely and Love tends to be a bit more prone to taking unnecessary risks.
For the Packers, this game serves as both a measuring stick and an opportunity to make a statement. Jordan Love has grown increasingly comfortable directing Matt LaFleur’s offense, spreading the ball efficiently to his young receiving corps while maintaining balance with a rejuvenated run game.
Green Bay’s defense, however, faces its toughest test of the year — containing Hurts’ dual-threat ability and the Eagles’ physical offensive front. The outcome could hinge on third-down efficiency and red-zone execution, where both teams have thrived. If the Packers’ defense can limit explosive plays and keep the score within reach, this matchup has the makings of a physical, late-season battle between NFC contenders.
This isn’t college football, but the Packers need a convincing win over a tough opponent to quiet some of the criticisms of the head coach and quarterback. They’ll have a chance to do that tonight.
