Deniz Ofli was recently rumored to leave Bayern Munich to gain experience at 2. Bundesliga team Karlsruher SC with an option to buy. Now the move is official, as Bayern’s website have confirmed the move:
Deniz Ofli is taking the next step: The full-back is joining Karlsruher SC on a one-year loan. The 19-year-old is following in the footsteps of former Bayern Munich reserve player David Herold at the Baden-based second-division club. Ofli joined the youth academy of the record German champions in 2019,
progressing through all the youth teams. Last season, he initially made 17 appearances for the U19s before playing nine Regionalliga matches for Holger Seitz’s first team after the winter break. The Turkish youth international has also made his debuts in the Champions League (Atalanta Bergamo) and the Bundesliga (VfB Stuttgart).
Karlsruher SC’s website confirmed the move and the existence of a buy option:
Our club has signed Deniz Ofli, a young and promising left-back, on loan to fill the gap left by David Herold’s departure to Borussia Mönchengladbach. We’ve also secured an option to buy.
“Deniz is already the third player we’ve brought to Karlsruhe from Bayern Munich – this shows that our club has established itself as a serious development destination. He has received top-level training and, as captain of the youth teams, has demonstrated his willingness to take on responsibility. This fits perfectly with what we’re building here,” explains Sporting Director Mario Eggimann.
“Despite being only 19 years old, Deniz has gained a wealth of experience at the highest level in FC Bayern’s youth academy. Furthermore, as a regular member of the first team training squad, he has already taken his first steps with the professionals, making his debuts in the Bundesliga and Champions League. We are looking forward to a left-back who is defensively reliable and strong in tackles, and who also makes his mark going forward. This complete package convinced us and fits our style of play,” says Director of Professional Football Timon Pauls.
[Ofli]: “After my initial professional experience at FC Bayern, I’m incredibly excited for my first real season in the 2. Bundesliga with KSC. Together with my teammates, I want to give my all on the pitch to be successful. I’m highly motivated for the season.”
Ofli has already played his first match for his new club in a friendly against VFB Gaggenau. The U-21 Turkey international started and played 45 minutes in an eventual 13-0 victory.
