The San Francisco 49ers entered the season with a perceived easy schedule. The San Francisco 49ers entered the season with a perceived easy schedule. It’s part of the reason the Niners have gotten out
to a 5-2 start and sit second in the NFC through seven weeks.
This is also a team that has won without Nick Bosa, Brock Purdy, and George Kittle in the lineup for much of the season. And you can pick a position and probably be right about being banged up there. All that’s to say the Niners have overcome injuries in ways few thought they would have to this point.
There’s plenty of season left. But it feels like a good time to reflect and look back on the first seven games of the 49ers’ 2025 campaign.
What’s been your favorite moment from the 49ers’ first 7 games of the season?
Depending on whether you’re the glass-half-full type or vice versa, there have been some pretty cool moments so far this season.
The return of Robert Saleh has transformed the 49ers’ defense. Christian McCaffrey is one of only two players in NFL history to record at least 450 rushing yards and 450 receiving yards in their first seven games. The only other person to accomplish that feat was Marshall Faulk during his 2000 MVP season. The backup quarterback is 4-1. Kendrick Bourne had back-to-back games with 100 yards receiving, despite not being on the roster in Week 1.
My answer: The second half of the Rams game
What a rollercoaster. The third quarter only saw three possessions. The Rams missed a field goal and scored a touchdown, while the Niners’ only score came on a decision to kick a field goal after Mac Jones looked like he’d miss the rest of the game.
The Niners punted the ball back to the Rams to begin the fourth quarter with a six-point lead. Los Angeles scored in just over three minutes, but missed the extra point. After trading punts, Eddy Pineiro’s legend grew with a 59-yard field goal.
Alfred Collins saved the day with a forced fumble and fumble recovery, but the Rams managed a field goal to send the game into overtime. That’s when Sean McVay called a fourth-down run that he likely instantly regretted. The Niners’ defense came up big in a key spot on the road to propel them to 3-0 in the NFC West.
The highs and lows from that game summed up why we tune in weekly.
