Well, Rockies fans, it’s the final home game of the 2025 season. After dropping Saturday’s affair 3-0, the team is now unable to win 50 games, becoming the fifth team in MLB history to do so since the implementation of the 162-game season. They will now look to end their time at home on a high note with a series victory.
The hometown kid, Kyle Freeland (4-16, 5.14 ERA), will take the ball for the Rockies. Freeland got roughed up a little bit in his last outing against the Miami Marlins. Despite a history
of success, the Fish managed to get six runs on eight hits against Freeland, who lasted 5 2/3 innings. After striking out 15 total in his previous two starts, Freeland struggled to miss bats and induce the weak contact that is key to his success. The Angels have shown off their power plenty in this series, but Freeland can be crafty and will need to keep the ball in the park. He carries a 6.14 ERA at home this season.
The Angels turn to young right-hander Caden Dana (0-5, 7.45 ERA). The 2022 11th-round pick has spent the majority of the season in Triple-A Salt Lake, only making two spot starts earlier in the season with the big league club before being recalled at the start of September. Dana hasn’t shown much of an ability to work deep into games this season, as he has completed more than six innings just four times out of 18 starts with the Bees. Pitching for the Angels, it’s been the same story with just one start out of five where he’s completed five innings. He carries a 7.43 ERA over his three starts this month, having given up a total of 12 runs on 15 hits over 13 1/3 innings of work. He has 17 strikeouts against nine walks.
