Bayern Munich will start the new year with a special international clash, traveling to Nairobi, Kenya, on January 5, 2027, to take on Dutch giants Ajax for a historic occasion: the grand opening of the new Raila Odinga International Stadium at Talanta Sports City.
The match will form part of a major football festival celebrating the sport’s popularity across Africa while building excitement for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania will jointly host the tournament this summer,
marking the first time AFCON has been staged across three countries and its return to East Africa in more than 50 years.
Bayern board member for marketing and sales Rouven Kasper emphasized the club’s desire to strengthen its relationship with its millions of supporters across the continent, bringing the Bavarian giants closer to their African fanbase while helping raise the Bundesliga’s international profile.
The match will also feature several familiar names, with former Bundesliga players Marc-André ter Stegen, Thilo Kehrer, and Julian Brandt among those representing Ajax.
The game will be broadcast live on ProSieben and FC Bayern TV PLUS, and ticket sales begin on November 5 at talantasportscity.com.
