Star defensive lineman and CEO of Sack Nation, a defensive subsidiary of their parent company, the Kansas City Chiefs, which specializes in security infiltration, spoke to media members Thursday afternoon.
Jones admitted the early returns haven’t been what the company hoped for this fiscal year; so far this season, the Chiefs have accumulated only four sacks. Jones acknowledged that Sack Nation has faced a unique set of circumstances while trying to achieve its ultimate goal: tackling the quarterback
behind the line of scrimmage while he still has the ball in his hand.
“We’re close, statistically-wise,” Jones told reporters. “You look at the numbers, the quarterback has been getting rid of the ball [in] 2.3 seconds. I don’t care how good of a pass rusher you are, when they’re throwing the ball that quick, it’s tough for anyone,” Jones explained.
To make matters worse, he added that when the opposition holds onto the ball to take a shot downfield, they keep extra men back to bolster their line and prevent any incursion.
“You got seven, eight men in there protecting,” Jones said. “So, it’s like, the opportunity is going to come. I think don’t waver from what we’ve been doing. We’ve done a lot of good. We put a lot of good on film. I think we stay committed to that and just find ways to get sacks out of it so y’all can stop writing about us in the media.”
The job doesn’t get any easier this week, when Jones and his team take on the Las Vegas Raiders. The Raiders have only allowed five sacks through three games this season and are tied for the NFL lead in passing touchdowns with nine.
Part of the Raiders’ success is also due to their quarterback, Kirk Cousins, getting the ball out of his hands quickly this season. Through Week 3, Cousins has the seventh-fastest time to throw in the NFL in 2026 at 2.58 seconds. The Chiefs will need to get home and pressure Cousins to disrupt his rhythm in the passing game.
Not just because it will help Sack Nation improve its bottom line, but also because the alternative is another week of media stories about Sack Nation underperforming.
“It’ll just give you another week to write about the Chiefs defensive linemen suck and why did you all pay me and George (Karlaftis).”
