
Columbus Clippers (53-72) – AAA
COL 4 – LOU 6
Despite a 3-run fifth inning to tie the game, the Clippers fell to the Louisville Bats. Ryan Webb got the start for the Clippers, falling to 5-7 on the season. Webb pitched 5.1 innings, giving up 7 hits, 2 walks, a 5R/3ER. A fielding error accounted for the 2 unearned runs. Bradley Hanner finished the sixth inning, striking out one and allowing one hit. Zak Kent and Will Dion pitched the remainder of the game. Dion went scoreless and hitless, striking out a batter. Dion gave up a hit, a walk, an unearned run and struck
out one. A fielding error allowed an unearned run to score, extending the Bats’ lead over the Clippers by 3 runs.
In the top of the fifth, the Clippers put up three runs. Christian Cairo hit a one-out single and scored on a Travis Bazzana, two-out double. Johnathan Rodríguez hit a homer to left center to add two more runs to the board.
Petey Halpin gave it his best to start a late inning rally in the top of the ninth. Christian Cairo drew a two-out walk. Halpin hit a ground-rule double to score Cairo. The Clippers came up short and fell 4-6.
Akron RubberDucks (71-52) – AA
AKR 6 – RIC 10
Rorik Maltrud had a short start for the RubberDucks, going only 3.1IP. Maltrud allowed 5R/ER on 6H, 1BB, and struck out three. Alaska Abney tried to give some length to the bullpen, pitching 1.2 innings. He allowed a solo home run and struck out two. Zane Morehouse earned the loss, falling to 0-6 on the season. Morehouse gave up 4R/ER on 6 hits in 2.0 innings of work. Tyler Thornton pitched the eighth, striking out two in the only scoreless outing for the Akron pitching staff.
Akron started the game strong, putting up four runs in the top of the first inning. Angel Genao drew a lead off walk, Ralphy Velazquez singled to center, and Wuilfredo Antunez hit a RBI double to right before the first out was recorded.
Jacob Cozart singled to score Velazquez and Joe Lampe followed up with a RBI double of his own.
In the top of the fourth, the RubberDucks took the lead. Christian Knapczyk drew a lead off walk. Tyresse Turner doubled to put both runners in scoring position. Angel Genao singled to right to score two.
Lake County Captains (70-54) – High A
LC 0 – LAN 1
The Captains continued the affiliate skid with a 1 run loss to Lansing. Michael Kennedy fell to 2-2 with 5.2IP, 7H, 1R/ER, 2BB, and 4K. Izaak Martinez finished the sixth and pitched the seventh inning. Jay Driver pitched the eighth inning. Both Martinez and Driver pitched hitless, scoreless innings.
The Captains only recorded five hits and two walks. Nick Mitchell and Esteban González both with 1-for-4. Jaison Chourio went 2-for-4, Bennett Thompson went 1-for-3 with a walk, Juan Benjamin went 0-for-3 with a walk.
Lynchburg Hillcats
FBG 3 – LYN 1
The Hillcats fell to the Fredericksburg Nationals. Melkis Hernandez had a strong start for the Hillcats with six innings of two hit, scoreless baseball. Hernandez struck out seven in his out. Angel Perez unfortunately gave up the lead, earning his first loss and first blown save. Perez pitched on 0.2 innings. He gave up 2R/ER on 2H, 2BB, and struck out 2. Julio Zapata finished the game, pitching 2.1 innings. He allowed 4H, 1R/ER, 2BB, and 2K.
SS Dean Curley went 3-for-4 on the night with a run. In the bottom of the sixth Curley hit a two-out double. Anthony Martinez singled to center to score Curley for the Hillcats’ sole run. Martinez was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Catcher Cannon Peebles went 1-for-4 with a double. Luke Hill went 1-for-3 with a walk and a double and Jose Pirela went 1-for-3.
