According to NFL Network’s league insider Ian Rapoport, the Los Angeles Chargers are requesting to interview Denver Broncos assistant head coach/defensive pass game coordinator Jim Leonhard for their defensive coordinator position.
With all signs currently pointing to Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph staying with the team, other teams looking for a defensive coordinator have their eyes set on Jim Leonhard. Many believed he would be the in-house replacement for Vance Joseph if he landed a head coaching gig this offseason. However, with Joseph looking likely to stay. Leonhard is generating interest around the league and will likely land a defensive coordinator job this offseason.
The Chargers are in need of a defensive coordinator after their previous defensive coordinator, Jesse Minter, was hired by the Baltimore Ravens to be their head coach, and Leonhard is one of the best candidates available currently. However, they will face some competition for Leonhard’s services. A report came out on Tuesday that indicated that Leonhard is expected to be the leading candidate to be the Buffalo Bills’ defensive coordinator.
Leonhard joined the Broncos back in 2024 as their defensive backs coach and pass game coordinator. He quickly impressed the Broncos and was elevated to assistant head coach and defensive pass game coordinator this past season. The success of the Broncos’ defense elevated his stock even more, and now Leonhard is one of the top defensive coordinator candidates in the league right now.
