The San Francisco Giants have been arguably the worst team in the National League this year, but that doesn’t mean they’re stuck with a token All-Star. Instead, the team received a pair of selections on Saturday when the 2026 MLB All-Star rosters were revealed.
One of those players was an obvious selection: second baseman Luis Arráez. The offseason free agent may end up having a short Giants tenure — all signs point to the team trading him ahead of the deadline in a month — but it’s certainly been
a memorable. He’s been far and away the team’s best position player, combining his expected otherworldly contact skills with unexpected Gold Glove caliber defense. He’s hit a stunning .330/.364/.467 on the year, and has been a wizard with the glove after years of earning a reputation for being one of the game’s worst defensive infielder. Entering Saturday’s game, Arráez’s 3.4 fWAR was well more than the next two Giants combined (Jung Hoo Lee and Casey Schmitt, at 1.4 apiece).
It’s the fourth All-Star nod for Arráez, who also made the team in 2022, 2023, and 2024.
Slightly more surprising is the inclusion of right-handed pitcher Logan Webb, and it speaks to just how dominant Webb’s June was. The ace of the Giants staff, who makes the All-Star team for the third year running, had a very uncharacteristic start to the season, and later landed on the Injured List. But he returned from the IL with a vengeance, and in June had the most dominant stretch of his remarkable career. In five starts in the month, Webb pitched 38 innings and allowed just 19 hits, four walks, and three earned runs. He pitched at least seven innings in all five starts, finished the month with a 0.71 ERA and a 2.24 FIP, and took home National League Pitcher of the Month honors.
His final start before the announcement was a bust (he gave up seven earned runs in three innings on Friday at Coors Field), but by that time the votes had likely already been tallied. And even with the tough outing, he still has a 3.66 ERA and a 3.31 FIP.
Congrats to both Arráez and Webb for the awesome achievements!
