Triple-A: Norfolk Tides vs. Durham Bulls (Postponed-Rain)
The Tides and Bulls were rained out on Tuesday and will play a makeup game as part of a doubleheader today.
Double-A: Chesapeake Baysox 4, Harrisburg Senators 2
Anderson De Los Santos launched a three-run homer in the 6th that put the Baysox ahead for good in their series-opening win over the Senators.
Chesapeake came into the bottom of the 6th inning down 2-0 with only two hits against Harrisburg. Aron Estrada kicked off the game-winning rally with a leadoff walk and moved to second on an Ethan Anderson single. After Thomas Sosa struck out looking,
De Los Santos unloaded on a first pitch left over the plate, sending an opposite-field three-run homer over the right-center fence.
Chesapeake added another run in the 7th thanks to some defensive deficiencies from the Senators. Douglas Hodo III led off the inning with a single and proceeded to steal second. Estrada then grounded out to move Hodo to third. That allowed Anderson to bring the run home when he grounded the ball to third and the Harrisburg catcher failed to secure the throw home.
The late rally was made possible by a strong outing from top pitching prospect Luis De León. The flame-throwing lefty threw five strong innings, allowing 3 H, 2 ER, 1 BB and 8 K. The two earned runs came via a two-run homer in the 2nd, his only real blemish of the evening. Despite his control problems throughout the season that have contributed to a 5.86 ERA, De León does have 72 strikeouts in 55.1 innings for Chesapeake this season.
High-A: Frederick Keys 5, Wilmington Blue Rocks 0
The Keys’ pitching staff combined for a one-hit shutout, as Frederick dominated Wilmington from start to finish in their series-opener.
Twenty-four-year-old right-hander Keifer Lord got the start for Frederick, tossing 2.2 no-hit innings with three Ks to start the domination. However, Lord had to be removed from the game after the second out in the 3rd due to left oblique discomfort. From there, the ball went to Jacob Cravey, who walked the first batter he faced before a successful pick-off ended the 3rd.
Cravey would give up the Blue Rocks’ only hit of the game via a one-out single in the 4th, before getting a pop out and groundout to end the frame. After the 4th, the ball went to 2024 seventh-round pick Carson Dorsey, who proceeded to set down the first 11 Blue Rocks he faced in a dominant appearance.
That streak ended on a two-out Elijah Green walk in the 8th, only for Dorsey to finish the frame on a groundout before working a 1-2-3 9th to complete the five-inning save. The 23-year-old left-hander out of Florida State finished with a final line of 5 IP, 0 H, o R, 1 BB and 6 Ks.
The normally powerful Frederick offense managed to score five runs on six singles thanks to small ball and defensive errors by Wilmington. Braylin Tavera got the scoring started in the 4th, reaching on a bases-loaded fielding error that allowed two runs to score. Colin Yeaman would then push across the third run of the game via a sac fly in the 7th. Tavera pushed across the final two runs of the game on a two-run single in the top of the 9th.
Low-A: Fayetteville Woodpeckers 9, Delmarva Shorebirds 1
The Shorebirds were held to one run on two hits in a lopsided loss to the Woodpeckers on Tuesday.
The only Shorebird run of the game came in the 7th with Delmarva already down 8-0. Miguel Rodríguez started the inning with a single to left and moved to second on a fielding error in the next AB. Rodríguez then completed his little league trip around the bases when a would-be double play ball saw the SS sail the return throw, allowing the Shorebird 1B to score.
The only other Delmarva hit of the day came via a Braylon Whitaker single leading off the game. Lack of plate discipline was a recurrent theme for the Shorebirds, who struck out 13 times on Tuesday.
The majority of the Woodpecker damage came against reliever Jason Shockley, who allowed three home runs in the 6th inning. These back-to-back-to-back solo homers saw the Fayetteville lead balloon from 4-0 to 7-0, with another run charge against Shockley for a sac fly later in the inning. The Woodpeckers were much more patient in their approach, walking nine times versus only five strikeouts.
