Here is the full 26-man roster for this series.
Saturday notes…
- CUBS ON THE ROAD IN THE POSTSEASON: This will be the Cubs’ 29th post-season series and the 15th they have begun on the road. The Cubs are 6-8 in the previous road openers. The first three wins were at Detroit, in the World Series of 1908, 1935 and 1945. They won at Atlanta in the 2003 Division Series, at Pittsburgh in the 2015 Wild Card game and at Washington in the 2017 Division Series. The last two wins were shutouts, as were the second and third at Detroit. The losses were in the World Series at Philadelphia in 1910 and at New York vs. the Yankees in 1932; in the Division Series in 1998 at Atlanta, 2007 at Arizona and 2015 at St. Louis; in the Championship Series at New York vs. the Mets in 2015; in the World Series at Cleveland in 2016; and in the Championship Series at Los Angeles in 2017.
- BEST CUBS BATTERS IN THE DIVISION SERIES: Michael Busch, 4-for-10 (.400), one HR. Nico Hoerner, 4-for-11 (.364). Pete Crow-Armstrong, 3-for-10 (.300). Carson Kelly, 3-for-8 (.375), one HR. Seiya Suzuki, 3-for-11 (.273), one HR.
- BEST CUBS PITCHERS IN THE DIVISION SERIES: Jameson Taillon, four innings, 0.00 ERA, four strikeouts. Drew Pomeranz, two innings, 0.00 ERA. Daniel Palencia, three innings, 0.00 ERA. Colin Rea, 1.2 innings, 0.00 ERA.
- THIS DAY IN CUBS HISTORY: The Cubs defeat the Pirates 4-0 to post their 116th victory of the season, a record that has not been exceeded (tied once, by the 2001 Mariners, in eight more games). It happened 119 years ago today, Thursday, Oct. 4, 1906.

Matthew Boyd, LHP vs. Freddy Peralta, RHP
This is a calculated risk by Craig Counsell, who’s done this sort of thing before in the postseason.
Matthew Boyd has not thrown on three days’ rest all year. On the other hand, he threw only 58 pitches against the Padres in Game 1 of the Wild Card Series on Tuesday. On the other other hand, in two
starts (10.1 innings) against the Brewers this year, Boyd posted a 7.84 ERA and issued eight walks. Those numbers are … not good.
But Boyd threw well Tuesday. Counsell will undoubtedly have a long reliever ready to go. It could very well be Ben Brown, who was added to the Division Series roster, replacing Taylor Rogers. Brown has thrown well against the Brewers, and Boyd might only go an inning or two. As always, we await developments.
Freddy Peralta had the best year of his career in 2025, leading the NL in wins (for whatever that’s worth) and posting 5.5 bWAR.
He made four starts against the Cubs this year. He shut them out in two of those (May 4 in Milwaukee, six innings, four hits, seven strikeouts; Aug. 18 at Wrigley Field, six innings, one hit, six strikeouts).
In the other two, the Cubs scored three runs in five innings June 19 at Wrigley Field and five runs in four innings July 30 in Milwaukee, with three homers in the nine total innings.
This will not be an easy game for Cubs hitters. Here’s hoping they are well prepared.
