The Minnesota Vikings and the New Orleans Saints are both well-known “dome” teams. And yet, somehow, their game on Sunday at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans could be affected by the weather.
We’ll explain.
After a very quiet Atlantic hurricane season to this point, there’s now an area that has been named Invest 92L that is sitting in the Bay of Campeche off of the coast of Mexico. Over the next couple of days, this area is being forecast to organize into, at the very least, a tropical depression
and start making its way into the Gulf of Mex. . .the Gulf of Am. . .into the Gulf.
You know which Gulf I’m talking about.
If the tropical depression manages to get organized enough, it could develop into Tropical Storm (or even Hurricane) Isaias. And while it’s too early to tell the exact path the storm might take, early indications have it headed right for the Gulf Coast.
Here are the “spaghetti models” from the 12Z (approximately 7:00 AM Central) runs of the various models this morning, courtesy of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
At the 96-hour mark, or early Saturday morning, a lot of the models have the storm parked right off of the coast or relatively close to it. Obviously, the storm isn’t going to have enough time to develop into a Category 4 or 5 hurricane or anything like that, but it could still be significant enough to potentially cause issues for, say, a football team whose plane is attempting to land at Louis Armstrong International Airport or something. If something slows the storm down and it doesn’t start impacting the area until later on in the day, it could make things even trickier, if not potentially impact the game itself.
I’m not saying that this depression/storm/potential hurricane is definitely going to impact the game on Sunday afternoon in New Orleans. I’m just saying it’s something that shouldn’t completely be ignored at this point.
