Rumors were circulating on social media all day, thanks to eagle-eyed Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, and now the Chicago Bears have officially announced that starting linebacker Tremaine Edmunds was placed on injured reserve with a groin injury. Also heading to injured reserve is running back Roschon Johnson with a thumb injury.
Edmunds is in the midst of his best season as a Bear through 10 games with 89 tackles, three tackles for loss, a sack, three QB hits, four interceptions, and nine passes
defended, while allowing opposing quarterbacks just a 66.4 passer rating.
Johnson has played in seven games, mostly on special teams, and he has seven tackles and two rushes for 17 yards.
The earliest Edmunds and Johnson could return would be Week 16 for the second Packers game. Taking their place on the active roster are linebacker Carl Jones Jr. and running back Brittain Brown, who were signed off the practice squad.
The Bears also elevated tight end Nikola Kalinic and offensive lineman Jordan McFadden from the practice squad for Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Starting left tackle Theo Benedet is nursing a quad injury, and he may be a game-time decision.
Additionally, cornerbacks Jaylon Johnson and Kyler Gordon will not be activated from the 21-day practice window. The team is hopeful both will be ready for the Black Friday game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
In Steelers news, they upgraded defensive tackle Cam Heyward and cornerback Darius Slay from their previous questionable injury status designation, and both are expected to play. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers remains questionable with a broken left wrist.
