The Seattle Seahawks are set to face the Washington Commanders on Sunday, who will be without starting quarterback Jayden Daniels (dislocated elbow) and they may see another backup later in the season when they take on the New York Giants.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garofolo, further testing revealed the knee injury New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart suffered in the teams 28-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Monday night is worse than originally anticipated and he could
possibly undergo season-ending surgery. Even if not, the Giants signal caller will be sidelined an extended period of time.
While speaking with the media on Tuesday, head coach John Harbaugh said “evaluations are ongoing” and the team hasn’t made any final decisions yet.
Dart was injuredon the opening drive of the game after he took a hard hit from defensive end Byron Young and collided with linebacker Josaiah Stewart. The second-year quarterback was taken to the locker room and did not return.
It’s a brutal blow for a Giants team that appeared to be on the rise after their 28-20 upset win over the division rival Dallas Cowboys in Week 1, where Dart threw for a near perfect 230 yards and three touchdowns to go alongside 54 yards on the ground.
Given Harbaugh’s comments, it’s unclear whether his injury will play a factor for their Week 13 road game against Seattle, especially considering it doesn’t come until Dec. 13. However, the Seahawks will be coming off a shortened week as they’re poised to face Dallas on Monday Night Football, meaning they’ll only have six days before taking the field against New York.
On top of playing one of the league’s best at home, having their starting quarterback would certainly be a significant boost for the Giants, who are seeking their first playoff berth since 2022.
Should he be unable to suit up, veteran Jameis Winston would presumably continue to handle duties under center. Although, he looked rusty while filling in on Monday, when he threw for 111 yards and an interception. New York also has Jake Haener on their practice squad.
The Giants are seeking their second consecutive win against Seattle after emerging on top 29-20 the last time the two teams squared off on Nov. 6, 2024, but Dart’s health could possibly be a deciding factor.
