Newcastle United entered the international break with major problems at full-back after injuries removed both Amar Dedic and Tino Livramento from Matthias Jaissle’s available squad.
Dedic has been managing a hamstring issue since the Carabao Cup victory at Millwall and aggravated the problem during the 4-1 defeat at Leeds United, but there is now encouraging news over the summer signing.
Bosnia and Herzegovina head coach Sergej Barbarez announced on Sunday that he expects Dedic to be available for
Newcastle’s first game after the international break. That would put the 24-year-old in contention for the trip to Coventry in just under three weeks.
“Amar Dedic re-aggravated his hamstring injury in the game against Leeds United. If he had not played that game he would be joining us right now,” Barbarez said. “But now he will miss this window of Nations League for us and should be ready for the first game after the international break for Newcastle United.”
Dedic will miss Bosnia and Herzegovina’s four Nations League fixtures during the extended international window, including two games against Poland and the matchups with Romania and Sweden.
The update provides some welcome clarity on Dedic’s status, as his expected return has become even more important because Livramento is facing another spell out after experiencing muscular discomfort and missing the Hull game.
Dedic has made an impressive start since joining Newcastle from Benfica for approximately £30 million, establishing himself at right-back before the hamstring problem interrupted his run in the team.
