Lamine Yamal has revealed he did speak to Nico Williams about a potential move to Barcelona earlier this summer but didn’t try to convince him to join Hansi Flick’s side.
Williams looked set to move to Barcelona after asking his agent to meet with Deco at the start of the transfer window but ended up staying at Athletic and penning a long-term extension.
Yamal and Williams are known to be good friends, and are due to link up again with Spain over the international break, but the Barcelona wonderkid
says he stopped short of telling the Athletic star to join him in Catalunya.
“Yes, I spoke to him, but I told him that at the end of the day, it’s his career. I’m too young to tell someone what to do,” he told RTVE.
“The only important thing is that he enjoys himself and has a good time wherever he is, and I’m happy if he’s happy.”
Barcelona went on to sign Marcus Rashford on loan from Manchester United and also brought in young Roony Bardghji from FC Copenhagen to add to their attacking options for the season.
