Although Mohamed Salah’s Egypt fell short of reaching the AFCON final after losing to ex-Red Sadio Mané‘s Senegal, Egypt will face Nigeria on Saturday in the competition’s third-place play-off.
Though the
dates are unclear as yet, Liverpool head coach Arne Slot told the press he expects the Egyptian captain to return to his club side “next week” at some time, and possibly in time for Liverpool’s trip to Marseilles:
“We are in talks with him, what is expected of him over there, what is expected over here, but first of all he needs to have a game on Saturday and next week he will be back with us.”
Slot was cognizant of not confirming times before the tournament concludes, however, and wanted to keep communications between himself and the player private:
“First of all, he needs to play another big game for Egypt on Saturday and then he comes back to us and I’m happy that he comes back.
“Mo has been so important for this club, for me, so I am happy he is back. Even if I had 15 attackers, I would have still been happy that he comes back.
“That’s not our current situation, so happy to have him back after an important game he has to play.”
“…What happens between Mo and me, on the phone or over here, stays between the two of us and I dont think it is necessary for me to share all the private conversations I have.”
