The recent signing of Ronald Araújo from Barcelona means Liverpool won’t have to rush him back into action after he missed the second half of last season with a shoulder injury, but news of Jérémy Jacquet returning to full team training today is nevertheless a major positive as the Reds prepare for the 2026-27 season.
Jacquet signed from Rennes in January for £60M and the young French centre half who turned 21 in July was expected to be the frontrunner to partner with Virgil van Dijk for Liverpool
after seeing out the season loaned back to the club he had developed at. However, shortly after agreeing to the transfer he suffered a serious shoulder injury.
Then, with the injury close to fully healed in time for pre-season and the player beginning his preparations to return to action, he suffered a minor knee injury.
As a result, Jacquet hasn’t played or participated in full team training in over six months. That is until today, when he was involved his first full training session with teammates under new head coach Andoni Iraola at Liverpool. That means there’s at least a chance of him making an appearance against Como on Sunday.
The Reds will play a pair of games against the Serie A side, with the first behind closed doors and expected to largely involve youth and fringe players—and, one might imagine, Jacquet if he’s ready—while the second will be at Anfield on Sunday afternoon and is expected to involve most of Liverpool’s first team stars.
After missing out over the weekend Monaco, midfielder Curtis Jones was also involved in team training today—though there’s plenty of speculation he could be joining Inter Milan soon—and Araujo also had his first training session with his new teammates.
