Last week’s blockbuster trade sent Hina Sugita to Angel City FC and M.A. to Portland Thorns, and now one of the clubs have announced a contract extension.
Today, the Portland Thorns announced that defender
M.A. Vignola has signed a contract extension through the 2027 season with a club option for 2028.
“I was really excited,” said Vignola. “The more Portland was pushing for me, that’s where my head was going… The history they have, the winning mentality, and everything they have going for here is an environment I want to put myself in.”
Vignola started her first match for new club in their 2-1 home win over Bay FC at Providence Park.
“Just stepping out on the field today, knowing Rose City was behind me today was helpful,” Vignola said. “I’m really happy the first game was in this stadium. I could really feel the energy, vibes, and I just really appreciate it.”
“I thought that was a terrific debut and you’re going to see a lot, lot more from M.A. in the future,” Rob Gale said after Vignola’s debut.
