The Chicago Bears reported to Halas Hall yesterday for training camp, but today they were out on the field for a crisp 75ish-minute practice. While it wasn’t an open practice (i.e., no Tweets from the beat or fans during the practice), there were a few press conferences, some reports shared, and Tweets fired out after the fact.
The biggest news circulating on social media all day was Caleb Williams announcing that he’d dropped between 10 and 15 pounds. “I’m excited about that to be able to move a little
bit better, be smoother,” Williams said at his presser.
Caleb also talked about his second-year tight end, Colston Loveland.
“He can become the best tight end in the league,” Williams said about Loveland. “I think he is. But stats and us going out there and proving it is what it is going to take, and to be able to do that, we’ve got to put in work, we’ve got to build a connection, hang out inside and outside the building, have tough conversations, or have open communication throughout the year and throughout camp. So it’s going to be exciting, it’s going to be fun.”
A few other nuggets from the day.
If you need a recap on the injured Bears, you can click here, but this morning, the Bears activated defensive end Montez Sweat from the non-football illness list, so that was a very short stay.
With Kyler Gordon (calf) out, Jaylon Jones was getting #1 reps at nickel with Josh Blackwell and rookie Malik Muhammad also rotating in. (link) Cam Lewis was also spotted at nickelback. (link)
No surprises on the offensive line as Braxton Jones was with the ones at left tackle and Garrett Bradbury was starting at center. (link)
As is his tradition, defensive coordinator Dennis Allen had his entire defense do 40 up-downs.
The Bears installed permanent cameras on all their practice fields, so if you were planning on sitting near the portable cameras for the best view of practice, you’ll need to figure out a new tell for which field they’ll be on.
Now for a few videos shared after the fact, in no particular order.
