João Cancelo has needed very little time to answer many of the questions surrounding his arrival on loan in the January transfer window, and the level of his performances has convinced Hansi Flick and the Barcelona higher-ups that he should stay at the club on a permanent deal.
According to multiple reports, including from Fabrizio Romano, Barça have already communicated their desire to keep Cancelo to his agent, Jorge Mendes, which will start a period of negotiations between Cancelo, Barça and his parent
club Al-Hilal to try and find a formula that will satisfy all parties.
Cancelo is well liked in the Barça dressing room and Flick is very impressed with his commitment and play on the pitch, and João is more than willing to lower his salary in order to stay at Barça long-term. The next step is more difficult: convincing Al-Hilal to sell at a reasonable price, which is essential for Barça given their ambitious plans in the window and the still complicated reality of their finances.
