Personal Thoughts
Wisconsin went with Hunter Simmons at quarterback, who seemed to show more at quarterback than they had in the past few weeks. Still, he didn’t get many opportunities in the first half, throwing mainly on long second and third downs, and the urgency in the passing game came too late.
Simmons could draw another start if Billy Edwards needs more time to recover in a must-win game against Iowa next weekend.
At running back, Dilin Jones returned after suffering a lower-body injury a few weeks ago. Things looked good on the opening drive, but Michigan focused on the run and Wisconsin didn’t adapt, leading to another ineffective day on the ground.
At wide receiver, Vinny Anthony compiled a strong day, getting some one-on-one opportunities. No other wide receiver caught more than one pass.
Tucker Ashcraft returned at tight end on a snap count, so he became the fourth option with Grant Stec, Jackson Acker, and Lance Mason. And, along the offensive line, Kerry Kodanko stepped in at right guard for Colin Cubberly, while Davis Heinzen got the start at center after playing there during the bye week.
Wisconsin seems to still be shuffling things around six weeks into the season, trying to figure out who its best players are. We’ll see what changes this upcoming week against Iowa.
