Inter 0 – 1 Liverpool
Inter: N/A’
Liverpool: Szoboszlai 88’ (pen)
Pre-Match
Salah was left home alone in the weight room while a negligent parent enjoys a European vacation. Or, well, probably not enjoys. Also there’s a Mac Allister on our team. But not Kevin. Might watch Home Alone instead of this shite, you know?
First Half
Liverpool’s best chance from the early stages of the match comes from Curtis Jones, who just decides he’s better than everyone else on the pitch. He threads an incredible pass through about three defenders, only for Isak
to trip over it, then Jones picks up the scraps, decides to dribble through a few lads for fun, and gets off a good, low shot, that forces a save from the keeper.
Konate…scored? Huh. It was off a corner, well worked? Oh wait, no, there was a handball in there. Never mind.
The hosts end with a bit of a flurry, including the best chance of the night, a headed effort that forced a great save from Alisson. Ootherwise neither side really did much.
Second Half
An hour into the match, and the xG is 0.26 to 0.14. This match is a snooze. I can’t wait to see how Liverpool shit the bed from here.
Slot brings on Wirtz and Bradley for Isak and Gomez.
Liverpool have started looking the better side as the second half winds down. Is this the match where we get back to our late-scoring ways? Or is there yet again another sting in the tail?
Oh shit! Wirtz won a pen! It’s a bit soft, but the defender grabs his shirt and pulls him back, and it’s hard for VAR and the ref to ignore on review.
Szoboszlai steps up to the spot and places it perfectly, just beyond the reach of the keeper!
Final Thoughts
It was mostly boring, but got the job done in the end! Liverpool are somehow up to 8th in the Champions League table, and hopefully we’ll be “playing” “better football” when the final two matches kick off in January.
Also worth noting, San Siro remains Anfield Very South. Do you think they give us the keys to the gaff already?
