The Chargers continued to ink their 2026 draft class on Monday by putting pen to paper with second-round pick Jake Slaughter.
With Slaughter now signed, the Chargers have agreed to terms with six of their eight-player draft class. The two remaining unsigned players are first-rounder Akheem Mesidor and fourth-rounder Brenen Thompson.
Slaughter was a multi-year starter for the Florida Gators, playing every single one of
his collegiate snaps at center. However, the Chargers believed his overall skillset was a perfect fit for Mike McDaniels offense for either of the three interior positions up front and he’ll begin his NFL career with a transition to guard while remaining the team’s backup center behind Tyler Biadasz.
As of now, Slaughter will comepete with veteran Trevor Penning and free-agent signee Kayode Awosika for the starting left guard spot. Another free agent signing, former Dolphin Cole Strange, is seemingly set as the team’s starting right guard, the spot he played under McDaniel in 2025.
