Normally we don’t like to focus on the personal here, but our family has been associated with Duke since near the beginning of the school and with Duke Basketball for over 60 years. So when things happen, DBR is the logical way to tell a lot of people news in one easy shot.
So here’s the news: our brother (JD and JK’s) Bill passed away Saturday morning.
He had a series of health challenges over several years but always seemed to overcome them somehow. We thought that, well, it’s Bill, he’ll just push
through this too.
Plus Duke played UNC Saturday and he was, we’re sure, looking forward to that.
Unfortunately he didn’t make it this time. He died while being comforted by his lovely daughter Meaghan, who was by his side through all of this.
Heroes don’t come in capes and costumes. Usually they are people who are tired, and challenged to their core, but who just refuse to give up. That really describes her to a T. We really hope that if you have a life and death struggle, you have a Meaghan in your life. If you know, you know.
Anyway, we just wanted to let those of you who knew Bill know that he’s gone. No one knows for sure what happens after death, but if you can have a good time there, he’s having a ball.
Take a minute after you read this and go hug your loved ones while you can. If you can’t, call or text. The day will come when you can’t anymore and you have no idea when that will happen, so don’t wait. Do it, and do it now.
