Long Island hoopers, it’s your chance to dust off the sneakers and see how your game stacks up.
The Long Island Nets, Brooklyn’s G League affiliate, have announced details for their 2026 local player tryout, presented by by the Hospital for Special Surgery. Long Island will host two sessions on September 13 with a morning tryout at 9 a.m. and an afternoon tryout at 1 p.m.
Both sessions will take place at LIU Post’s Pratt Recreational Center in Old Westbury, N.Y.
Those who try out will have a chance
to showcase their skill sets in front Brooklyn and Long Island basketball operations personnel, with the ultimate prize being a spot on Long Island’s training camp roster.
Those interested will have to put down a $250 registration fee if they sign up before September 1, $275 after. All candidates must pre-register online and meet NBA G League eligibility requirements. For more information on the tryouts or to register, please visit longislandnets.com.
Participation in each session will be limited to the first 75 applicants who submit the registration fee and complete the required registration and waiver forms.
Long Island has discovered multiple players at the local tryout, several of whom have turned into valuable pieces for the organization. Jordan Minor, who was found at the 2024 local player tryout, appeared in 42 games for LI that season.
Another example of a local player tryout success story is Terry Roberts. Roberts, who participated in the 2023 tryout and is an Amityville, N.Y., native, played 90 games with Long Island over the past three seasons and currently ranks third in franchise history with 344 assists.
He also earned an invite to Brooklyn’s Summer League squad in 2025 before signing an Exhibit 10 contract with the team for last season. Now, he is headed overseas and signing with the Caledonia Gladiators in East Kilbride, Scotland in the Super League Basketball , the top tier of pro basketball in the United Kingdom.
The biggest success came back in 2021 when Craig Randall II joined Long Island after a successful local tryout and won the G League’s Most Improved Player award that same season.
Both sessions will be closed to the public.
