The Portland Trail Blazers will take on the Los Angeles Lakers tonight for the second time this season. The Blazers have already beat L.A. once, a 136-129 victory back on October 27th. If they do it again, they will have taken both road games in the series before the season is a month old.
This brings up an interesting—and as yet, speculative—question. You know the Lakers. They have Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves, one of the few backcourt duos who could claim to be higher of up the NBA ladder than
Portland’s own duo of Damian Lillard and Ja Morant. The rest of the roster isn’t spectacular. Center Walker Kessler probably leads the parade. But Los Angeles has the will and ability to acquire players like few other franchises. One day the cupboard can be bare, the next it can be full of former MVP’s and GOATS. We’ve seen it before.
One way or another, the question is this: when this season is through, will the Blazers have a better overall record than the Lakers? It doesn’t matter whether you think the teams will remain at the top of the standings as is true currently (Portland 6-1, L.A. 7-2) or if you forecast them slipping. All we want to know is who gets more regular season wins this year.
