Joseph Parker was initially targeted to face undisputed Heavyweight champion, Oleksander Usyk, before “The Cat” was sidelined with an injury. Parker earned his shot by winning six in a row, including taking out Deontay Wilder, Zhilei Zhang and Martin Bakole during that span. With 24 knockouts on his resume, Parker decided to stay active instead of waiting around for Usyk, which could be a big risk for him. That said it’s commendable to see a fighter stay busy instead of keeping the division idle. But he has a tough task in Wardley, who is out to secure his own big-money title fight against the best big man in the business.
Wardley (30) is undefeated at 19-0-1 and is fresh off a brutal 10th-round knockout win of Justis Huni this past summer to win the WBA interim strap. Huni was cruising in the fight and was well on his way to get the win before Wardley pulled off a knockout in the final round (see it again here). It’s no secret both men are bonafide power punchers, but Parker brings experience to the table while Wardley is a raw fighter who goes all out to get the job done. Parker has 27 knockouts to his name, while 18 of 19 Wardley’s wins have come by way of knockout. Parker is the odds-on favorite to win the fight, but when it comes to Heavyweights it doesn’t take much to get a win. This one may not last too long.
Original Card vs. Actual Card/Injuries
Unbeaten prospect Ezra Taylor (12-0) will face off against Steed Woodall, defending his WBC International & Commonwealth Silver Light-Heavyweight titles. Taylor comes in with with eight knockouts and was originally originally slated to face Lewis Edmondson, before withdrew with a hip injury. Woodall (20-3-1) stepped in on short notice in hops of locking down his thirteenth knockout.
How The ‘Prelims’ Look:
George Crotty — who is undefeated at 4-0 — will face off against Bahador Karami, who has a dreadful record of 4-38-4. He hasn’t won a fight in his last 32 fights, which is yet another fighter being thrown on a card that is as dreadful as they come. If you thought that was bad, Zayn Ahmed — who will be making his pro debut — will go up against Engle Gomez who has a horrible fight record of 9-51-3.
In a 115-pound fight, Tony Curtis will bring a record of 11-1 with only one knockout on his record. The 19-year old pugilist will face off against Lakshmy Cantreras, who has a paltry record of 3-12-3, which includes his current three-fight losing streak.
Jimmy Dean Wood and Artjom Spatar will face off in a four-round Super Welterweight fight. Wood is 3-0 and made his pro debut just last year. Spatar, on the other hand, has a record of 5-17-1 with only one knockout on his resume.
And finally, to round out what is truly a horrible fight card, Anton Esson (4-0) — will face off against Jordan Ellison who is 15-58-5. Again, this is simply a laughable lineup of fights and no one will confuse it for must-purchase action, other than the main event, of course.
Who Needs A Win Badly:
In one of the worst records in the history of combat sports, Jake Pollard comes in with a record of 1-99. Yes, you read that correctly, he has only won one time and has lost on 99 occasions. Why he keeps getting booked is unfathomable and promoters should be ashamed of themselves. He is on a 50-fight losing streak. Again, you read that correctly and I can not believe I am typing that. He fights over 10 times a year most times, so you can see why the losses stack up. He will attempt to win just the second fight of his career when he faces Mohammad Ishaq who has a record of 2-0. This is just embarrassing.
Interest Level: 5/10
Juergen Uldedaj (28) and Rolly Lambert Fogoum (36) will co-headline the event in a 12-round fight for the vacant IBO Cruiserweight title. Uldedaj enters as a heavy favorite with a record of 20-1, but Fogoum has power an experience on his side with a record of 18-3-1. This is one of the few reasonably-matched fights on this card, so it’s not a total waste.
Danny Quartermine will defend his British and Commonwealth super featherweight titles against Royston Barney-Smith. Quartermine has a record of 12-0-1 with four knockouts. The orthodox fighter competes out of Doncaster, England and looks to remain undefeated against a 21-year old prospect who is 14-0 with seven knockouts.
Mitchell Smith (32) comes in with a record of 18-1 with nine knockouts and is the former English and WBO European Super Featherweight champion (2015). He will be facing off against Arnie Dawson, who is 10 years younger and is undefeated at 8-0 with four knockouts. “The Terminator” barely turned pro in November 2023 and has quickly impressed with impressive performances that has made him a legit future threat for the Lightweight division to worry about.
Enjoy the fights (as best you can)!
