A tribute marking the centenary of Alfredo Di Stéfano’s birth took place in his hometown of Buenos Aires. Real Madrid was represented by its Director of Institutional Relations, Emilio Butragueño, while the Blonde Arrow’s daughter Silvana and sister Norma Di Stéfano were also in attendance.
The ceremony included the unveiling of a plaque at Padre Marcelino Champagnat Square. The square occupies the former Club del Plata pitch, where Di Stéfano first began playing football. The plaque bears the inscription:
“On this ground, Alfredo Di Stéfano, one of the greatest figures in world sport, began playing football.”
“Di Stéfano represents all the values of our institution. His DNA was fundamental in building that mythical and legendary Real Madrid that won the first five European Cups. It is impossible to understand the history of Real Madrid without Di Stéfano,” Butragueño said, addressing those gathered.
