Lamine Yamal’s uncle feels the Barcelona superstar deserved to win the 2026 Ballon d’Or over Bayern star Harry Kane.
The Barcelona teenager actually finished third in the rankings, with Kylian Mbappe in second, but Abdul Abdellaoui says his nephew is the best player on the planet.
“My nephew was amazing, he was the best player in the world, everyone knows it,” he told El Larguero.
“If you like football, you go to see Lamine, not Harry Kane. Harry Kane is a great goalscorer but Lamine is the best player
who shines on the pitch.
“Lamine is very young, he’s 19, he’ll win more, but Harry only has three days of football left and we’re giving him the ball.”
“He’s won a World Cup, La Liga, and the Super Cup. He plays very well. He’s had an incredible season. He scores goals that nobody else scores. Passes, assists, you name it.”
Yamal did take home the Kopa Trophy yet again and is being tipped to go on and win the Ballon d’Or in the future by Barcelona president Joan Laporta.
“I am convinced that he will win the Ballon d’Or, I don’t know when, but he deserved it,” he said, per Mundo Deportivo.
“In my view, he did enough to win the Ballon d’Or, but the voters decided the matter this way, and that must be accepted in a sporting spirit. I hope this will be a motivation for him on a personal level, and I am sure it will be. All his teammates will help him get over this disappointment quickly.”
