Since Ben Johnson took over as head coach of the Chicago Bears, tight end Cole Kmet has seen his opportunities in the passing game shrink, while being asked to do more as a blocker. His 48 targets, 30 receptions, and 347 yards in 2025 were his lowest since his rookie season (2020), but that’s fine with him.
“I mean, I’d rather win, man,” Kmet said today when asked about his different role. “It’s miserable around here when you’re not winning.”
“When I do get the ball, it’s great and all that stuff,
but they put a heavy value on the run game and pass pro, all that stuff. So, that stuff [not being targeted] really doesn’t concern me. I feel like you do what they ask you to do here, and you do it at a high level; you’re not going to have much to worry about. So, that’s kind of how I go about things.”
Early in the press conference, he discussed how different year two with Ben Johnson has been, his long tenure in Chicago, and he also touched on the Bears running more 13 personnel with him, Colston Loveland, and Sam Roush.
